Evelyn Kuo

Since 1996 Evelyn Kuo has helped hundreds of clients hone athleticism, increase range of motion and strength, gain breath awareness, improve mental focus, achieve peace of mind, get relief from pain, recover from injuries, ease pregnancy, and include better health habits into daily life. As the owner of Essence of Motion for the last 11 years, she has strived to create a sacred space for people to connect with their bodies and minds. Teaching with expertise, a calming demeanor, and a strong work ethic keep students eagerly coming back for more.
Certified in Pilates through the Physical Mind Institute, Evelyn has studied with masters in the field including renowned teacher Jillian Hessel. She is also certified in Shiatsu massage and has studied craniosacral therapy at the prestigious Upledger Institue, Reiki healing in England, and breath meditation with David Elliott in Los Angeles. Her unique approach is supported by ongoing training in her current fields of knowledge, as well as other alternative healing methods such as yoga, aqua-craniosacral therapy, and Functional Physical Therapy. Athletic since childhood, her interest in movement has driven her to understand how various therapies contribute to a stronger, healthier body and mind.
“My desire is to educate people about body awareness and the physical connections that improve health, both inside and out. After working with me, I hope students regularly include the learned concepts into their daily lives. Doing so will bring more joy, balance, and peace.”
When away from the studio you can find Evelyn Zen dancing, hiking the beautiful Southern California Mountains, or enjoying the sun and surf at the beach.
Clare Bayens

Clare Bayens began her movement exploration through dance at the age of 4 in Houston, Texas. Trained in ballet, tap, jazz, and modern she graduated from the University of California, Irvine in 2006 with a BFA in dance performance. A dance-related injury first led Clare to the Pilates Method through Pilates-based physical therapy. After recovering, she decided to further her training with Professor Diane Diefenderfer. director of the Pilates program for the UCI Dance Department. In 2007, she received her certification through Ms. Diefenderfer who is a certified Master Teacher and was a student of Romana Kryzanowska and Ron Fletcher among others. While inspired by her dance background, Clare practices a classical Pilates Method.
We would like to introduce a new member to Essence of Motion
Sheila Smith was introduced to Kundalini Yoga in 2003. She received her training under Master Teacher Dr. Santokh Singh Khalsa, who studied directly with Yogi Bhajan, founder of Kundalini yoga in the West. Her original goal for taking teacher training was to further her personal practice. Upon completion of the program, she realized her true passion was to teach this transformative discipline. Her classes emphasize the basics: breathing and postures, which serve to ground students in a strong foundation for their practice. Featuring a wide range of eclectic music such as Eastern, Chill out, World and non-traditional music (Louis Prima, anyone?), you can learn in a comfortable, fun, and stress-free environment. Her classes work to bring passion, joy, enthusiasm, and humor into your life.
